Who We Are
Butterflies is a group for girls aged 9 – 14yrs which aims to support them as they journey through the prepubescent and puberty years.
9 -11 yrs – Junior Butterflies
12 – 14yrs – Senior Butterflies
The girls are assigned to a pod based on age and geographical location. Each pod consists of an adult female Facilitator, up to, 8 girls and 1 older teenage Mentor. Each pod meets once a month where a topic from a ‘spiral curriculum’ is covered. The girls explore: the changing body, reproductive anatomy, menstruation, charting, hygiene, sex, emotional intelligence, mental health, body and self image and much more. These topics are then revisited and cross over, with increasing detail and depth over the course of the programme.
The Butterflies programme includes a supervised weekly ‘Online Hangout’ where the girls discuss the ‘Question/Dilemma of the Week’ on a secure online platform.
Through guided discussions, journaling, games, and interactive workshops, the Butterflies programme aims to:
- Provide a safe space for girls to express themselves and support one another
- Provide valuable information and knowledge to empower young girls as they transition into young women
- Equip the girls with tools to use as they grow and learn how to take charge of their own bodies, emotional, and psychological wellbeing
During your daughter’s time with Butterflies we will honour and celebrate her First Period (Menarche) either openly within the group or privately should she wish.
